30 Teams in (a lot more than) 30 Days: Phoenix Suns

Record last year: 24-58

Major departures: Leandro Barbosa (Waived)

Major acquisitions: Josh Jackson (4th overall pick), Davon Reed (32nd overall)

Leading scorer: Devin Booker (22.1 PPG)

Leading rebounder: Tyson Chandler (11.5 RPG)

Leading assister: Eric Bledsoe (6.3 APG)

Phoenix's Book Gang is ready to steal our attention and run away with it (to the West's basement).

Although success is highly, highly, highly unlikely for this current team, the Suns have the potential to be an exciting young team, led by a scoring sensation in the making.

Only 3 players have scored more points in a season before 21 than Devin Booker. Those names? LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Shaquille O'Neal.

Only 5 players have scored more points in a NBA game than Devin Booker. Those names? Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, David Robinson, and Elgin Baylor.

Say what you will about his defense and his team's success, but his name is already among some of basketball greats. Pretty impressive for a player selected after NBA legends Frank Kaminsky and Jahlil Okafor.

Phoenix's futility last season was rewarded with the 4th overall pick, which they used to select Josh Jackson. The Kansas wing is versatile enough on both ends of the court to complement his new teammates well.

Barring a catastrophic accident that injures the entire rosters of the Lakers and Clippers -knocks on wood-, I see another last place finish in the division for the Suns. This season should be a developmental one for the roster and one for the front office to try and get as many picks as they can.

Brandon Knight's injury, though killing his trade value, opens up space on the depth chart for the young guys on the roster. Players like Josh Jackson and fellow rookie Davon Reed now have additional space opened up to get accustomed to the NBA game.

And let's face it, Brandon Knight's bad juju can stay as far as it possible can from these new faces in Phoenix.

Phoenix won't have to worry about intentionally tanking this season, since they have arguably the worst coach in the NBA leading the Suns to the basement. Earl Watson captained the Suns to the worst record in the Western Conference last season, and his name is nowhere in the hot seat conversation.

Their coaching decision tells us that a successful season for them doesn't include competing in the playoffs. With the Warriors currently at full strength, preparing for the future is a smart idea for this franchise.

But my bold prediction for the Suns next year is Marquese Chriss averages at least 16 points a game next season. The second year big man is a talented lob catcher, and can step out behind the 3 point line and shoot.

While current success is nearly impossible, the framework is definitely there for future success.
